Eldrena Douma

Eldrena Douma

In Schools:
November 2 thru 4, 2010
May 2 thru 6, 2011

Eldrena Douma is a professional storyteller, author and workshop presenter. Her experience as a storyteller began in her youth, on the Laguna and Hopi tribal lands, while listening to family and historical stories. Favorite stories include those of her Tewa-Hopi grandmother and her impact on the pueblo pottery world. Today, Eldrena travels throughout the U.S., inspiring students to listen, think and read by sharing stories of her personal experiences, which she tells with great wisdom and humor.

In telling “The People, Their Stories,” Eldrena will give examples of how American Indian history, folktales and life stories remain strong among tribes and their families and she will relate family stories of living and working at the Grand Canyon and Petrified Forest of Arizona.

May 2 - 6, 2011

In conjunction with docent-led tours of the exhibition, The Grand Canyon through the Lens of Adam Schallau, students will also do library research on the Grand Canyon and the National Parks and see performances by Hopi Story Teller, Eldrena Douma. Eldrena’s Hopi great-grand parents were among the first to create their pottery and tell their stories as guest artists brought by Fred Harvey to the El Tovar Lodge.
