Imagination Celebration has been a part of my life since elementary school. I have had the opportunity to participate in a variety of events that Imagination Celebration has done in connection with the Fort Worth Schools.

As I became older, I had the opportunity to participate in a number of things that were sponsored for deaf students, especially the Imagination Celebration Special Weekend for the Deaf. This was particularly important to me because it gave me opportunities to meet other deaf students from other school districts. I also had the opportunity to meet a number of deaf adults and to develop a dream that deaf people can do anything if they have the determination.

Last year, I had the chance to be a part of the Imagination Celebration Young Apprentice Art Program. This exposed me to a variety of teachers and styles of art. Some of the styles of art I might not have tried on my own but through this program, I was able to explore them in a very open and accepting setting. I always felt like the teachers were positive and encouraging. I enjoyed the challenges and hope to have more opportunities to further explore some of the styles and types of art that I learned.

I hope to be a role model for other deaf individuals and I hope to someday become a bridge between the hearing and the deaf worlds. I want hearing people to realize that a deaf person can do anything through hard work and I want deaf people to strive to be their best. I also hope to help parents with deaf children have higher expectations for their kids and become more involved and learn to sign and communicate with their children. I am blessed to have sign communication in my home but many other deaf children do not have that.

Imagination Celebration has helped develop my dream by helping me pursue my passion with art. It has given me a better perspective of the deaf community and has challenged me to become a role model for others. I am grateful for all these opportunities and hope that many others will be given the same chances that I have had.
