Fort Worth Botanic Gardens
Grade 4
September-May (2011-2012)
Conceived by Imagination Celebration and the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens in 1991, this program is a special and beloved hands-on learning experience for fourth grade students from FWISD schools who apply to be selected to participate. Selected schools are rotated annually. Students come to the Imagination Celebration Vegetable garden for 6 bi-weekly hands-on gardening sessions with the Fort Worth Botanic Garden’s team of master gardeners. The students plant the garden from seed and care for it though harvest. The artistic design, vision, and colors of the garden come from the imaginations of the children involved. Students learn about plant growth cycles, decomposition, and soil cycles through composting, and observe the effects of weather, insects, and other environmental factors on the garden through planting, caring for, and harvesting vegetable crops and herbs. The program culminates with an artistic celebration of the harvest.
