Young Artist Apprenticeship Program

September - May

This program is open for portfolio application to all High School FWISD students. The program will be held on Sunday afternoons from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. FWISD high school art teachers will receive detailed information from the FWISD Art Department.

This very special program has changed numerous young lives because it offers the opportunity for high school students to work with some of today’s leading professional master artists in specially designed three hour weekly class sessions on Sundays from November through May. The program takes place each week in the galleries of the Fort Worth Community Art Center. Students work with the masters to refine their own artistic skills and also learn of the wide range of artistic mediums in which they might work.

The Young Artist Apprenticeship Program was created by Imagination Celebration Fort Worth and area artists in 1991 and has been presented in partnership with the Fort Worth Independent School District Art Department throughout the years. Student participants are recommended by their schools or the school’s art teacher. Students must submit a portfolio of work to be reviewed for admission to the program. 40 students are selected each year and are honored at a reception in late fall and with a Public Exhibition at the end of the school year in May. The Young Artist Apprenticeship Program is a national award winning program and is credited by many of its alumni for transforming their lives and giving them a path to their dreamed of future.
